We bought a new thing recently and gave it its first outing last week. It’s a German power scythe in a rather fetching green/orange livery; loaded with horse power, armed with 6 gears and a mightily long cutting bar.
We had hired and borrowed smaller machines in the past which worked well enough to suggest this would be the way to go. After months of watching a favourite auction site, this one appeared and now, after a few hours use, we are pleased with its performance.
We will have to spend some time after the harvest’s done, dropping all of the willow stools using a clearing saw, so that next winter the new beast can run through the crop with the greatest of ease. We’ll see, but first impressions have been good.
